GWSD GRIEVANCE AND GENDER BASED VIOLENCE PROGRAM

GWSD facilitated the distribution of GRM GBV boxes to NEWMAP intervention sites and construction yards in 9 project locations.

More often than not, community developmental projects are froth with grievances, a usual occurrence at different levels of intervention vis a vis project design, planning and implementation, however, addressing the issues of Gender Based Violence alongside grievance has also become imperative.

Basically, irrespective of the form a grievance or Gender Based Violence takes, a proper hearing and satisfactory solution beneficial to the aggrieved parties and the project should surface.

Having said that, with the completion of the formation and revalidation of Grievance Redress Committees in 9 intervention locations, GWSD distributed GRM GBV boxes in Iguosa, Gapiona, Igbei, Emu, Ogiso Osunde, Ibore, Ugboha, Urora and Ewu intervention sites and contractor yards.

In each location, the GWSD team composed of the livelihood officer, Grievance Officer and the Executive Director of the lead focal organization –GWSD sensitized the grievance committee members on the GRM tool and structure of Edo NEWMAP in handling community complaints and grievances, with members properly educated on the stages of complaints and patterns of alerting the focal NGO on unresolved issues such as deposit of petitions in the GRM GBV box. At the end of the activity, the grievance officer presented GRM GBV boxes to each committee and staff of the construction firms.
