Yesterday, we celebrated the International Day of the Girl, a day to recognize girls’ rights and the unique challenges they face around the world. As Global Women for Quality and Sustainable Development (GWSD), we are committed to empowering girls to achieve their full potential and to overcome gender inequality. We believe that girls are agents of change and leaders of tomorrow, and we support them through our various programmes and initiatives.
Some of our projects that focus on girls include:
- Providing health education and facilities, safe water, sanitation and other social amenities for development purpose.
- Carrying out campaign and support for the provision of micro credit, sustainable agro projects and skills acquisition in communities to alleviate poverty.
- Advocating against sexual and gender-based violence and harmful traditional practices that affect girls’ well-being and dignity.
- Fostering a global network with women and youths in conflict and peace building for sustainable development.
We also recognize and celebrate the achievements of girls who are championing solutions and change in their communities. We create space and platforms for girls to raise their voices, inform policies, influence businesses, and direct research priorities. We partner with governments, civil society, and other stakeholders to ensure that girls’ rights are protected and promoted.
We know that investing in girls’ rights is not only the right thing to do, but also the smart thing to do. When girls are educated, healthy, safe, and empowered, they can contribute to the social and economic development of their families, communities, and nations. They can also help us achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and build a fairer future for all.
