Benin City, March 11, 2020 NEWMAP Edo State and National Data Validation Mission
The NEWMAP Federal Project Management Unit (FPMU) alongside the Umbrella NGO visited the office of Edo State Project Management Unit, the gully and erosion sites as well as business enterprises of the Community Interest Groups (CIGs), with GWSD/GPD participating in all the plenaries.
In the course of activities, the team visited remediated Queen Ede gully site; the Urora Flood Alleviation and Protection Construction Works site; the Edo College gully remediation site and the Gapiona Flood Alleviation and Protection Construction Works.
At the Queen Ede Site, the team met with the site committee chairman Barrister Sunday Imolode and Rev. Father Richard Ofere of the St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church who both extolled the team for the intervention while emphasizing the socio-economic benefits of the relief to the community.
During the visit to Gapiona Flood Alleviation and Protection Construction Works site, the Project coordinator, Tom Obaseki revealed the poise of Edo NEWMAP, to solve the issue of perennial flooding,
further revealing that NEWMAP has been gearing up towards the handing over of ten sites in different parts of the state and expressed his satisfaction at the pace of work.
Finally, the team also visited business enterprises of NEWMAP funded Community Interest Groups (CIGs) where members of the groups expressed gratitude to NEWMAP for the livelihood component of the intervention.
